The Striped Comfort Shawl has been mailed off this morning.
The Receiver’s name came up in two separate e-mails from two different sources.
I had to track down who might possibly have her street address, who was glad to give it to me for such a worthy purpose.
This is a good feeling. I made the shawl knowing that someone would be needing it….someone in much more dire straits than I am, no matter how much I hate doing Math homework.
She is someone I have never met face-to-face. In blogland, that doesn’t seem to matter. The two who mentioned her name probably haven’t met her in person either. We get to ‘know’ each other, by writing style, by pictures taken on the journey, feeling like part of a bigger and whole neighborhood.
After awhile, I will say who needed the shawl. She doesn’t know it is coming and so I want to know her first reaction. There’s a letter on paper inside the package, so she will learn the story of the shawl and how it made its way to her shoulders.
Until then, hold good thoughts, say some prayers, and understand that an inanimate object, the Internet, and the Postal Service were able to bring about connections this one little woman with a hook and yarn is unable to comprehend.
~~love and Huggs, Diane
